You’re invited to the “cast party,” as singer Celia Slattery celebrates the release of her new CD, Cast of Characters,an album of pop, folk/rock and jazz. Celia's original music weaves the catchy melodies typical of a Brill Building classic with perceptive lyrics inspired by artists like Joni Mitchell, Leonard Cohen, and Richard Thompson, who are also covered on the album. Celia’s songs touch upon broad-ranging themes including friendship, the effects of war, and overcoming cynicism.
Known for an engaging performance style, Celia is backed here by a virtuosic band that includes local favorites Mark Shilansky, keyboards; Greg Holt, bass; and Steve Kirby, guitar; along with well-known drummer Dave Mattacks. Mattacks, who has recorded with legends like Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Richard Thompson, was a member of the folk-rock group Fairport Convention and played on the original recording of Farewell, Farewell, a song covered on the CD.
