The Harvard Square Business Association is excited to announce the 6^th Annual Chinese New Year Celebration in Harvard Square. The pageantry begins at noon on Sunday, February 12^th in historic Winthrop Park with a lion dance around the ancient oak tree. Immediately following the dance, join in the festivities as we parade through Harvard Square, past red and gold silk lanterns festooning the wrought iron lampposts on Massachusetts Avenue, and onward to our final destination, The Hong Kong Restaurant.

Boston's Celtic Music Fest (BCMFest) will celebrate its ninth anniversary January 6 and 7, 2012, at venues in Harvard Square. The festival is a popular showcase for Boston's best performers of music, song and dance from Irish, Scottish, Cape Breton and other Celtic and Celtic-inspired traditions. BCMFest offers concerts and participatory events at three different Harvard Square locations, all within easy walking distance of one another. And there are parades throughout the festival. The festival also marks the start of the Harvard Square Business Associations Winter Carnival.

Cambridge Firefighters will once again partner with the United States Marine Corps Reserve in collecting toys in the annual “Toys-for-Tots” drive. Now in its’ 64th year, the program was started in Los Angeles, CA when a handful of Marine Reservists distributed 5,000 toys to needy children on Christmas Eve 1947.
