OPENING DAY – OPEN MIC Celebration in Harvard Square.

Date: Sunday, April 4th, 2010
Time: From 4:00 p.m – 7:00 p.m
Location: Corner of Brattle Street and Palmer Street

The Harvard Square Business Association (HSBA) and the Cambridge Center for Adult Education (CCAE) have teamed up to celebrate one of America’s Favorite Pastimes in one of America’s oldest gathering spots! Please join us next to Cardullo’s Gourmet Shoppe – the home of the illustrious “Chair Club” where fans from across the world gather share their love of Baseball.

Last year, with gracious sponsorship from Cardullo’s Gourmet Shoppe and many other Harvard Square Businesses, we hosted an “Opening Day Wedding” when the Chair of the Chair Club married the First Lady and they shared their wedding vows and celebration with the public. This year we celebrate Dennis and Kelly’s first anniversary, Cardullo’s Gourmet Shoppe 60th Anniversary, and the HSBA 100th Anniversary of “Caring for the Square!” In addition to all these anniversaries, we welcome an exciting new series to town entitled “A Home Run in Harvard Square” a baseball-centric series of lectures at the Cambridge Center for Adult Education. And if that weren’t enough, Harvard Square is also the proud host of the American Repertory Theater’s World Premiere of Johnny Baseball, a new musical about the Red Sox and an exhilarating blend of fact, fiction, and the mystical power of the game (opening on May 14th, 2010).

In fitting style for the “Most Opinionated Zip Code in America” we are celebrating “Opening Day” with an “Open Mic” and an open invitation to step up to the plate and speak one’s mind about baseball, opening day, the season ahead and those that have come before. We welcome opinions, well wishers, trivia questions, stories, poems, facts, prayers, readings, and clean knock-knock jokes etc., We will be joined by a few Celebrity Guests and will make announcements as we get closer to the date!

We will have all the usual ball park treats – some to sample, some to purchase and a few other surprises in store!

In honor of their anniversary Cardullo’s will tune their world-famous Window TV to the game and will turn back the clock to the decade when they first opened! They will feature music from that period, offering special “remember when” pricing on select items and a staff “dress code” that will rock your bobby-sox!  From April 1-7the enjoy Special 1950 style prices for a Coke, Hot Dog and Crackerjacks!
