Special Theatrical Premiere!
TRICK ‘R TREAT
Fri at 5:30, 7:30; Sat at 5:30, 10:00
(2008) dir Michael Dogherty w/ Dylan Baker, Anna Paquin, Brian Cox, Leslie Bibb, Tahmoh Penikett, Quinn Lord [82 min]
This much buzzed about horror film has finally made its debut on DVD but the Brattle is thrilled to present the first theatrical screenings in the Boston area! A positive who’s who of things that go bump in the night, TRICK ’R TREAT features a cavalcade of ghosts, ghouls, werewolves, vampires, slashers and more. Interweaving several different stories that all take place on Halloween night in one Ohio town, writer/director Michael Dougherty has made a new horror classic with just the right blend of horror, gore, ghoulishness and, of course, cruelty to children. And, in case you need some encouragement to get into the holiday spirit, Dougherty introduces a creepy sack-masked hobgoblin that torments those who don’t respect the traditions of Halloween.
Also Friday, October 30
Special Premiere Screening!
THE DARKNESS WITHIN
at 9:30
Chad Morgan and Ashley Sera have just moved into their new apartment. They've gotten engaged and are about to start a new life together. Everything seems perfect, except for one thing - their next-door neighbor, Mr. Reed. After a bizarre encounter, Chad begins to realize that if he doesn't unlock the secret to this mysterious voyeur soon, he may lose everything - including his mind.
(This screening is sold out!)
Also Saturday, October 31
Happy Halloween!
EVIL DEAD 2
at 1:00, 7:30pm
Costume contest and special treats at the 7:30pm show!
(1987) dir Sam Raimi, w/ Bruce Campbell, Ted Raimi, Sarah Berry [85 min]
A Halloween tradition here at the Brattle, Sam Raimi's inspired follow-up to Evil Dead is more of a remake than a sequel. Doing away with the more somber tone of its predecessor, Evil Dead 2 finds our hero Ash (Bruce Campbell) still stuck in that damn cabin in the woods, and his undead enemies are more bloodthirsty than ever! The Three Stooges-style ultraviolence unleashed upon Ash makes this film a delirious, hysterical experience. Groovy! This is fast becoming the hottest Halloween ticket in Boston, so be sure to get yours early!
Also Saturday, October 31
