The 28th Annual Mayfair event in Harvard Square last Sunday, was a resounding success, and a kind and thoughtful event!
With very little fanfare, Harvard Square Business Association members raise awareness and funds for great causes at Mayfair with proceeds that go directly back to our Cambridge community.
Each year, Re/Max Destiny’s hot air balloon on the Cambridge Common, Grafton Street’s Sam Adam’s beer garden and the Rotary Club of Cambridge, “Chalk-on-the-walk activity raises thousands of dollars for local charities.
Just today, the Mount Auburn Hospital was presented with a check of $1471.00 for the Leah Parker Memorial Cut-A-Thon to benefit the Alice Hoffman Breast Center at the Mount Auburn Hospital on behalf of our members, Rick Fogarty from Plan b Cut and Color, Fred Fleisher from Floyd’s 99 Barbershop, and Mari Kozelian from Salon Bella Mar. Leah Parker was a dear friend of Rick Fogarty and his wife Judy. Leah succumbed to breast cancer after a valiant fight; Fred and Mari were pleased to help Rick and Judy honor their friend.
By working together, Rick, Judy, Fred and Mari gave haircuts at the Spring Hair-Cut-A-Thon, a beloved event at Mayfair. Unlike like year, where we enjoyed 85 degree weather, this year stylists from Plan b, Salon Bella Mar, and Floyd’s 99 Barbershop dealt with much cooler temperatures (55 degrees) and very strong winds.
We are proud of our HSBA members for partnering together for such worthy causes and are grateful to our sponsors and vendors for their participation. We are thankful to our neighbors, families, students and visitors who attend Mayfair each year and are grateful to the City of Cambridge for their guidance and assistance that ensures the safety and well-being of all who participate and attend.
