The First Annual Urban-Ag Fair in Harvard Square

The Harvard Square Business Association
is pleased to announce the winners
of the First Annual Urban-Ag Fair!

Folks were asked to bring their harvested and baked goods to the judging table. Under clear blue skies last Sunday morning, folks trekked to Harvard Square to enter their preserves and pickles, apple-pies and brownies, fruits and vegetables, and flowers and plants into the judging contest.

We congratulate all the winners listed below and thank everyone who participated and everyone who attended.  It was a wonderful event, with delicious food, fun demonstrations, and valuable information; a true celebration of local food, local growers and local community!

Celebrating Local Gardens, Growers and Food

Date:  September 20, 2009

Time:  12:00pm until 6:00 p.m

Location: Winthrop Street and Winthrop Park

Join us for our First Annual Urban-Ag fair being held on the very historic site of the first marketplace in Newtowne (1630's). Our 2009 Urban-Ag fair will bring to market some of the most incredible locally grown fruits and vegetables ever seen. Prizes will be awarded for the tastiest, the biggest, the most interesting, and in some cases the ugliest fruits, veggies, baked goods, honey, flowers, preserves, pickles and eggs! Cooking demonstrations from local chefs, gardeners, and "Cambridge School student-growers" will be held throughout the day. Come to sample recipes and/or to stock up on the bounty of our harvest from our local farmers markets, get tips from local experts on composting, community gardening, rain barrels, and bee-keeping! All events are free, open to the public and family-friendly. Kids are encouraged to enter to win Student Prizes in every category!
