Owner Rene Becker thoughtfully studs brown bread with dried blueberries from Michigan, makes a yeasted cornbread, and re-imagines the Oreo. They are generously stuffed with topnotch curried chicken salad or house-roasted turkey, spread with freshly made hummus and mayo, layered with hand-cut bacon and fresh herbs, and so on. An inlaid-pebble floor, long wood-block common table, and shelves lined with imported condiments---as well as a small selection of boutique wines and liqueurs---define an airy space from which you can watch bakers roll dough and mind a grand French oven.
