Founded in 2006, Cambridge Local First is a network of independent, locally owned businesses located throughout the city of Cambridge. We work to promote the many benefits of patronizing local businesses, including unique goods, more personal customer service, a smaller carbon footprint, and the "multiplier effect" that keeps 58% more money in the local economy. We publish 30,000 copies of an annual directory featuring our growing roster of members (currently at over 300), which get distributed all over Cambridge. We also hold many workshops and special events throughout the year, to assist our member businesses in being more sustainable, environmentally responsible, and economically secure. We are affiliated with the Sustainable Business Association of Greater Boston (SBN), and with the national organization BALLE (Business Alliance For Local Living Economies).
