April 2017 Vacation Program: Kids' Cabaret at New School of Music
Students ages 7-14 work in a fun, up-beat, and supportive atmosphere that incorporates singing, acting and dancing. Throughout the week, team-building is integral to the learning process and is explored through theater games, script-writing exercises and improvisation. The program culminates in a Saturday afternoon performance of songs, scenes and dance from the musical theater repertoire.

Time: 9:00am-3:00pm: Tuesday - Friday; 9:00-12:00pm on Saturday with a noon performance for family & friends.

Joanna has worn many different hats over the course of her musical and theatrical career. She studied Drama at LaGuardia High School (the "Fame" school) in NYC, Film Acting at Stonestreet Studios, and appeared in various NYC-based independent films. Later, pursuing her passion for music, Joanna graduated Summa Cum Laude from Skidmore College in 2012, with a B.A. in Music. At Skidmore, she studied piano with Pola Baytelman, voice with Anne Turner, and composition and orchestration with Anthony Holland, and participated in master classes with Christopher O'Riley (classical piano) and The Bad Plus (jazz voice). Joanna is also a singer/songwriter, having written and orchestrated dozens of songs and performed in numerous venues in the Northeast. Joanna’s teaching experience includes: Assistant Director and Acting Coach of "Broadway Kids," a musical theater class for children and young teens, and co-director of Skidmore College's Gospel Choir. She has also directed, and written and arranged music for, diverse groups of vocalists/instrumentalists for both the recording studio and live performances. Currently, Joanna teaches beginner piano and works as a freelance musician/composer/arranger in various genres including Electronic Dance Music, Musical Theater, and Folk/Rock.
