The Lumiere brothers are credited with the first public film screening. Their films ran an averaged 46 seconds: our festival's tiny masterworks come in at 60 seconds apiece. They only had ten films to show that day in 1895: we have over 100! Not to oversell it, but if the Lumiere's could see Le:60 Film Fest - their twin moustaches would explode into flames simultaneously.

Old and new fans of Dr. Dog are eagerly awaiting news of a rescheduled Dr. Dog show in Harvard Square since the “rain-out” cancellation of their MayFair performance earlier this month. The Band really wanted to play in Harvard Square and very graciously squeezed a new date into their busy pre-album release schedule (Fate will be released on 7/22).

Harvard Square Business Association (HSBA) is proud to announce its new partnership with PaperG, Inc., a local company started by Harvard and Yale undergraduates, to enable Harvard Square businesses to easily and affordably publicize upcoming events online in their local community. PaperG’s new advertising format, called Flyerboard, will go live on the front page of the HSBA’s website, HarvardSquare.com, on Tuesday, May 27, 2008.

The Cambridge License Commission (CLC) announced today that six new hybrid taxicabs are in service due to its Clean Air Cab Program.  The environmental initiative is the CLC’s program to reduce the city’s taxicab environmental impact by bringing more hybrid vehicles to the road.

BOSTON (March 28, 2008)—The Independent Film Festival of Boston (IFFBoston) today announced the films that will be featured at the Brattle Theatre as part of the 2008 Independent Film Festival of Boston. The sixth annual festival will be held at the historic Brattle Theatre April 25-April 27, 2008. This year, to meet the demands of its growing audience, IFFBoston has expanded its slate to include 96 films. The festival, complete with over 150 film screenings, filmmaker Q&A sessions, panel discussions, visiting filmmakers, parties and events will showcase the works of filmmakers who seek to create films that are life changing, thought provoking and expose aspects of life in new and revealing manners.

Harvard Square, a melting pot of culture and cuisine, celebrates the Chinese New Year, Sunday, February 10th from 2-4pm with a Lion Dance Parade throughout the square and an afternoon of Chinese Arts and Crafts at the Hong Kong.
