SUMMARY:HEY RIM JEON
DESCRIPTION:Described as a “brilliant pianist” by legendary saxophonist Benny Golson\, Hey Rim Jeon has been enjoying the recent accolades and acknowledgements of her accomplishments as a musician and educator\, following the release of her new jazz recording Groovitude\, which soared to No. 14 on the Jazz Week National Radio Chart and remained in the top 20 for several consecutive weeks. The recording features a guest spot by her dear friend and colleague Grammy Award-winning jazz drummer Terri Lyne Carrington\, as well as bassist John Lockwood and drummer Yoron Israel. The recording holds a special place in her heart\, as it’s dedicated to her late father.\n\nIn addition\, her recent sold-out CD release concert at Scullers\, the No. 1 Jazz Club in Boston\, and the world-famous Birdland jazz club\, established Hey Rim as a force to be reckoned with in the jazz community. She received rave reviews from fans and music critics\, as well as members of the Korean Cultural Center and Korean Cultural Society. A high point of her trip to New York was viewing her image for the first time on a billboard at Times Square that flashed brightly during her gig at Birdland.

SUMMARY:Dirty Three
DESCRIPTION:Like Tortoise\, Gastr del Sol\, and\, later\, Godspeed You! Black Emperor\, The Dirty Three helped reinvent the language of indie rock\, their ragged and ecstatic instrumentals expanding the form’s sense of possibility in the mid-‘90s. Guitarist Mick Turner\, drummer Jim White\, and violinist Warren Ellis were busy members of the fertile Melbourne scene in the ‘80s\, shuttling in and out of assorted scabrous bands. Their collective reputation grew quickly after they formed in the early ‘90s\, their savage and unhinged shows in Australian pubs leading to an international record deal and major tours. Horse Stories and Ocean Songs and Whatever You Love\, You Are established them as a truly great improvisational act\, reframing the terms of a power trio by adding absolute punk gusto to music that sounds a little like jazz\, a little like a string band\, and a lot like nothing else.\n\nTurner\, White\, and Ellis have become in-demand players on their own in the last 30 years. White is a premier session musician\, working with the likes of Bill Callahan\, Cat Power\, and PJ Harvey. Ellis is the wild-eyed\, wild-bearded counterpart of Nick Cave. And aside from his own consummate solo records\, Turner has worked with Will Oldham and Courtney Barnett. But on 2024’s unstoppable Love Changes Everything\, their first album in a dozen years\, The Dirty Three proved that their vocabulary and chemistry have only expanded. The album’s sixth and final untitled movement is music of pure rapture\, the three old friends coalescing in the last half with a roar that sounds like love\, beauty\, and heaven all at once.

SUMMARY:Angel Du$t\, Outta Pocket\, JIVEBOMB\, Recollection
DESCRIPTION:Justice Tripp lives in the future. For nearly two decades\, the musician has consistently been ahead of the curve: first with Trapped Under Ice\, where he led the way for a new wave of heavy hardcore\, and then as the mastermind behind Angel Du$t\, where he blazed the trail for the current generation of aggressive musicians to branch out into unabashedly melodic territory. Tripp’s work is marked by an ever-evolving creativity that’s made him highly influential\, but which has often put him a number of steps ahead of the very trends that he’s helped to inspire. Now Angel Du$t are back with their new album\, Brand New Soul: a fearless and open-hearted tribute to all things rock\, offering listeners a chance to be right there with them on the cutting edge. Tripp might forever be keeping an eye on the future\, but Angel Du$t’s time is now.

SUMMARY:The Advent School Comedy Fundraiser
DESCRIPTION:The Advent School Mission: Since 1961\, The Advent School has stayed true to its founding vision: an urban school whose community reflects the diversity of Boston; a forward-thinking curriculum that inspires and engages a child’s passion for learning; a commitment to social justice; and a culture of collaboration where every child has the confidence to take action in a connected world. In 1961\, at the start of Boston’s desegregation conflict\, Dr. Mona C. Hull looked at her community and said\, “Our children live together. They should learn together in reflection of the city they come from.” Advent was founded as a non-secular school where all of Boston’s children could learn and thrive together\, regardless of race\, ethnicity\, religion\, neighborhood\, or socioeconomic status. 100% of ticket sales go to Advent financial aid fund\, ensuring children from all of Boston’s neighborhoods have access to Advent’s premier progressive Reggio Emilia-inspired education. \nLineup: Bethany Van Delft\, Tony V.\, Tooky Kavanagh\, Kelly MacFarland\, Orlando Baxter\, Brian Longwell\, Even Valentine (Subject to Change)

SUMMARY:Can Democracy Survive the Data Economy? Privacy\, Power\, and the Right to Dissent
DESCRIPTION:“’Cause we have a nice little database. And now you’re a domestic terrorist.”\nOn January 23\, 2026\, in Portland\, Maine\, that was the response a masked agent gave when a protester asked a simple question: “What are you taking my information down for?” The blunt\nadmission marked a chilling shift in the American public square.\nWhat was once a marketplace for personal information has evolved into a permanent\, powerful infrastructure: one that federal agencies\, law enforcement\, and even the Department of Defense\nincreasingly rely on to monitor\, classify\, and track people in ways the public rarely sees. \nAt the center of this shift is the data-broker economy\, a vast\, lightly regulated industry that buys and sells the intimate details of our lives. These datasets now feed into AI systems used for policing\,\nimmigration enforcement\, and risk assessment. More recently\, they have also begun informing the Pentagon’s exploration of autonomous technologies capable of identifying and targeting\nindividuals without direct human oversight. \nThe implications for democracy are profound. When participation in a protest leads to an entry in a “nice little database\,” what happens to the right to dissent? \nJoin Cindy Cohn\, Executive Director of the Electronic Frontier Foundation\, and Kade Crockford\, Director of Technology and Justice Programs at the ACLU of Massachusetts\, for a timely\ninvestigation into how these systems work\, who they empower\, and what they mean for the future of democratic participation.

SUMMARY:Live Blues & Roots Music Returns to Harvard Square: Wednesday Nights @ The Sea Hag Restaurant & Bar
DESCRIPTION:The Sea Hag Restaurant & Bar and The Barrett Anderson Band are excited to announce a new weekly series\, Blues & Roots Wednesdays\, bringing live music back home to historic Harvard Square. \n“Cambridge\, our fair city\, and I share deep roots\, and I’m thrilled to find a new musical home at The Sea Hag\,” says Massachusetts-based singer/guitarist\, Barrett Anderson.  “Good music and good food are two of our most basic\, fundamental needs\,” he continues\, “What great joy they give us.  I am so happy to revel in that every Wednesday night with my dearest musical friends\, and Kari and her incredible team at The Sea Hag.  We go way back together\, and I can’t imagine all the fun we have ahead.” \nIndeed\, Anderson has strong connections to this scene.  He remembers: “My first professional experience came when I was 15\, backing up Muddy Waters’ band alums Pinetop Perkins and Bob Margolin at the original House of Blues on Winthrop Street.  A few months after that I began busking\, you’d often find me in Brattle Square or by the pit.  This would have been mid/late 90s.”  While still a teen\, Anderson was a member of The Monster Mike Welch Band and Ronnie Earl & The Broadcasters (“Ronnie was my guitar hero.  Then he was my teacher\, then my boss.  Now he’s my musical Father\,” Anderson says)\, before eventually starting The Barrett Anderson Band in 2007. \nAnderson won a Boston Music Award (2013 Blues Artist of the Year)\, was on the Billboard charts (2020’s live album Hynoboogie spent 3 weeks on the Billboard Blues Album chart\, peaking at #6)\, and was nominated for a Blues Music Award (2023 Band of the Year with Anthony Geraci & The Boston Blues All-Stars)\, all the while playing nationally\, internationally\, and locally in Cambridge and the greater Boston area. \nIn addition to the musical roots\, long-time locals may recognize Anderson from a decade serving tables and bartending at The Sea Hag’s sister establishment\, Grendel’s Den\, or from Abodeon\, the mid-century modern shop started by his family. \nMusic starts every Wednesday at 6:30 at The Sea Hag Restaurant & Bar\, 49 Mt Auburn St\, and there’s no cover.  “We start while people are dining\,” Anderson states.  “It forces us to play dynamically\, dig deep\, and explore the space\, creating music that doesn’t demand attention but rewards it.”  He adds with a grin “We do get to turn up and demand attention too\, we just have to time it right.” \nJoining Anderson (vocals and guitar) are Paul Loranger (upright and electric bass)\, and Joey Pafumi (drums and percussion).  “This is the core of The Barrett Anderson Band\,” Anderson explains.  “The full band has wonderful additional musicians\, but for this gig tight and light was right.  This gives us the flexibility to learn material fast and improvise easily on the spot\, allowing for regular guests and specially themed evenings.  We’re making sure that each week is rewarding and unique.” \nThe Barrett Anderson Band are digging deep into their Cambridge roots for the first string of shows\, featuring local roots rock king Dennis Brennan as a special guest. \nBlues & Roots Wednesdays at The Sea Hag Restaurant & Bar\n49 Mt Auburn St\, Cambridge MA 02139\nMusic starts @ 6:30\nWednesday nights \n  \nWhat critics say about Barrett Anderson \nFrom Jay Clestowski\, Disciples of Sound: “Barrett Anderson continues to carry the torch that J. Geils left behind…  HypnoBoogie demonstrates that some of the best grooves come out of the ‘dirty water’ and that’s where they belong.” \nFrom JD Nash\, American Blues Scene: “This Bean Town foursome packs enough raw energy on stage to power the whole of New England.” \nFrom Chris Spector\, Midwest Record: “Anderson has the chops and spark to make a real statement his own way.  Hot stuff.” \nFrom Jay Miller\, The Patriot Ledger: “HypnoBoogie… is the kind of refreshingly vibrant\, genre-crossing album that is a throwback to the days when rock ‘n’ roll acknowledged its roots in blues\, but ventured wherever the spirit took it.” \nWhat critics say about The Sea Hag Restaurant & Bar \nFrom Sheryl Julian\, Boston Globe: “Harvard Square’s Sea Hag is the little sister to Grendel’s Den…” \nFrom Kara Baskin\, Boston Globe: “The team behind Grendel’s Den in Harvard Square has opened Sea Hag\, replacing The Bouthouse.  Wash ashore for fish and chips\, Jamaican beef patties\, arancini\, crab dip\, raw bar delights\, and muffins…” \nFrom Boston Restaurant Talk: “The Sea Hag opens in the former Boathouse space in Harvard Square.” \nFrom Marc Levy and Rónán Fitzgerald: “Grendel’s Den owner Kari Kuelzer is expanding in Harvard Square\, taking over the Boathouse location to open The Sea Hag Restaurant & Bar.” \nwww.barrettandersonband.com\nwww.seahag02138.com
