In-Person Gallery Talk: Krzysztof Wodiczko’s Portrait
March 9, 2022 @ 12:30 pm - 1:00 pm
This is an in-person event.
Curator Mary Schneider Enriquez will discuss Portrait, Krzysztof Wodiczko’s commission at the Harvard Art Museums that explores the state of democracy today. Video recordings capturing voices of students and young people are used to activate the Harvard Art Museums’ iconic portrait of George Washington (c. 1795) by Gilbert Stuart, fostering an exchange of views and responses at this time of heightened political division.
Though not required, participants are encouraged to view Portrait before the gallery talk.
Krzysztof Wodiczko: Portrait is on view at the Harvard Art Museums through April 17, 2022.
A concurrent exhibition, Interrogative Design: Selected Works of Krzysztof Wodiczko, is on view at the Harvard University Graduate School of Design through April 8, 2022. (Before visiting, please visit the Graduate School of Design’s website for up-to-date information on public access to the school’s galleries.)
Portrait is made possible by the Graham Gund Exhibition Fund, held jointly by the Harvard Art Museums and the Harvard Graduate School of Design.

Mary Schneider Enriquez, Houghton Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art
