DESCRIPTION:Niloufar Nourbakhsh in collaboration with Ensemble Decipher | Tactile Transmissions | Faculty Artist Recital \nStones wired with motion sensors. Vintage radios feeding back into acoustic instruments. Cassette tape that has been physically mangled and put back in the machine. \nEnsemble Decipher builds instruments out of things that were never meant to be instruments\, then plays them. Every work on this program is about transmission and what gets warped along the way. \nRhizome Music sends live drums through microphones into vintage radios and back into the acoustic instruments\, building a hall of mirrors out of sound. Stone Dreams attaches motion sensors to stones and transmits the data by radio\, turning the stones themselves into the instrument. Of Breath and Feeding Back takes up aging and the loss of youth. Marti Epstein’s new work pairs toy pianos with cassette players loaded with altered tape\, producing what she calls a nostalgic soundworld. Erin Rogers’ Telegraph runs from homing pigeons to electrical telegraphy\, with nonsense text passed between players while one performer mixes the room live. \nPlus works by ensemble members Nourbakhsh\, Bohigian\, and Cosgrove.
