Stephane Wrembel will release 3 CDs–Triptych: Phase 1, 2 and 3—that he recorded with his band with special guest pianist, Jean-Milchel Pilc, on March 29, 2024. Almost all of the compositions by Wrembel are new. All the ones by Jean-Michel Pilc are new. The recordings will be available on 3 CDs and on all streaming platforms.
Wrembel, recognized as one of the preeminent guitarists globally, specializes in the style of Django Reinhardt. With a career spanning the globe, he has released 17 albums under his own name and “The Django Experiment.” His recent release, Django New Orleans, debuted in May 2023. Notably, Wrembel’s original compositions have graced films such as “Midnight in Paris,” “Vicky Cristina Barcelona,” and “Rifkin’s Festival,” with “Midnight in Paris” earning a Grammy Award® for “Best Compilation Soundtrack,” which included Wrembel’s composition “Bistro Fada.” Wrembel has shared the stage with iconic artists like Elvis Costello, Patti Smith, The Roots, Medeski Martin & Wood, and many more. His annual music festival, “Django A Gogo,” has gained global recognition as a premier event celebrating Django Reinhardt’s music.
Jean-Michel Pilc, acclaimed for his improvisational prowess, is a pianist and composer with a distinguished career. He has performed alongside jazz legends worldwide, served as the musical director and pianist for Harry Belafonte, and engaged in memorable duets with opera singer Jessye Norman. Pilc has released several recordings with his trio and gained acclaim as a solo performer, with five critically acclaimed solo piano records. Currently residing in Montreal, he is a member of the Jazz Faculty at The Schulich School of Music of McGill University.
Wrembel says, “This triptych, this collection of three albums forming a whole, is a representation of a journey of a human life. To be a Human is not only a biological structure, but also an underlying feeling, a sensation. Human, so Human could have been another title for it. The idea of recording a triptych came fully from my subconscious, it was not a conscious decision. Actually, most of the best artistic decision I’ve taken were completely irrational, completely guided by instinct and inner visions. I would even dare using the word dreams. This project is the most representative of my inner world, a mirror of my soul. I am very fortunate to be working with some of the greatest musicians on earth. Nick Anderson on drums. Ari Folman-Cohen on bass. Thor Jensen on guitar. Josh Kaye on guitar (three tracks). Nick Driscoll on Saxophone and clarinet. Eduardo Belo on bass (three tracks).
