The Multifaceted Career: Ashley Chui at Longy School of Music
November 6, 2019 @ 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm
Longy School of Music of Bard College is proud to present The Multifaceted Career Speaker Series featuring conversations with musicians who defy categorization. As an essential component of Longy’s career coaching program, this series fosters an exploration of how we (re)define individual success in our diverse and growing field.
Ashley Chui is a Mezzo-soprano, a non-profit professional, and an entrepreneur. Chui started to receive professional classical voice training when she attended Idyllwild Arts Academy. She continued receiving classical voice training at Manhattan School of Music, where she earned a Bachelor’s in Music degree in May 2017. She now performs mostly as a soloist at concerts and events, collaborating with nonprofit organizations.
Chui has a personal mission to give back to the society by promoting arts and culture. She has worked at nonprofits including Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in New York and Hong Kong Trade Development Council in New York. In 2016, she was recruited to join the International Chamber Orchestra of America, where she is the Executive Director. In May 2019, she completed a Masters of Science degree in nonprofit Management at the Columbia University in New York City.
Turning a hobby into profession, Chui was able to start a business venture in photography. Back in 2016, she founded Jullitan Productions, providing photography and videography services specifically for musicians. In April 2018, she opened CARA Vision Studio, a 1700sqft photo studio located in Midtown, Manhattan. This business has become a tool for her to achieve her personal mission to help different nonprofit organizations by providing branding aids.
In this workshop, Chui will share with the audiences how music has led her to entrepreneurial and creative collaboration opportunities, and also look into some marketing and branding tips for musicians.
