SUMMARY:David Wax Museum & Lowland Hum present The Golden Hours
DESCRIPTION:Catch the unveiling of The Golden Hours\, a new band formed by the members of acclaimed indie-folk acts David Wax Museum and Lowland Hum. These musicians have been touring and recording for over 20 years\, featured on CBS Saturday Morning and NPR’s Tiny Desk\, and lauded by The New York Times\, Washington Post\, TIME and Rolling Stone.  The Golden Hours’ debut record Terra Nova (to be released in 2026) brings together the power of these four songwriters in a marriage of lush harmonies\, emotional depth\, and supreme musicality. \nHailed by NPR Music as “pure\, irresistible joy” and praised by The Guardian as “global crossover at its best…as cheerfully infectious as it is original\,” David Wax Museum’s eclectic and exuberant sound blends the ancient and ever-relevant rhythms of traditional Mexican music with amber pop hues and unabashed rock riffs\, all tethered together by seductive harmonies. \nCo-fronted by multi-instrumentalist Suz Slezak with her raucous accordion and sublime fiddling along with the charismatic energy of David Wax\, their on-stage chemistry is both captivating and intimate. Since their early breakout as a buzz band at the revered Newport Folk Festival\, the band has toured the world with their two young children in tow\, performing at festivals in North America and Europe\, and sharing stages with The Avett Brothers\, Los Lobos\, The Wood Brothers\, Old97’s\, Buena Vista Social Club\, Gregory Alan Isakov\, Watchhouse\, Josh Ritter\, and Guster\, among others. \nTransmitting their kinetic energy in platforms including CBS This Morning: Saturday\, Tiny Desk Concert\, and NPR’s World Cafe\, they have also soundtracked love stories on and offscreens\, from the Netflix #1 show Firefly Lane to the wedding of US Secretary of Transportation\, Pete Buttigieg. Canada’s CKUA Radio praised their latest album You Must Change Your Life as “truly transformative — a colorful\, multi-layered dream world which speaks to both the most earthly and the most ineffable sides of our human existence.”

It’s an Open Mic\, but there’s always some pros dropping in to test new material\, so it’s unavoidable to have a good time\, for free no less. Doors open at 6 pm. The heat starts around 7 pm.

SUMMARY:Live Blues & Roots Music Returns to Harvard Square: Wednesday Nights @ The Sea Hag Restaurant & Bar
DESCRIPTION:The Sea Hag Restaurant & Bar and The Barrett Anderson Band are excited to announce a new weekly series\, Blues & Roots Wednesdays\, bringing live music back home to historic Harvard Square. \n“Cambridge\, our fair city\, and I share deep roots\, and I’m thrilled to find a new musical home at The Sea Hag\,” says Massachusetts-based singer/guitarist\, Barrett Anderson.  “Good music and good food are two of our most basic\, fundamental needs\,” he continues\, “What great joy they give us.  I am so happy to revel in that every Wednesday night with my dearest musical friends\, and Kari and her incredible team at The Sea Hag.  We go way back together\, and I can’t imagine all the fun we have ahead.” \nIndeed\, Anderson has strong connections to this scene.  He remembers: “My first professional experience came when I was 15\, backing up Muddy Waters’ band alums Pinetop Perkins and Bob Margolin at the original House of Blues on Winthrop Street.  A few months after that I began busking\, you’d often find me in Brattle Square or by the pit.  This would have been mid/late 90s.”  While still a teen\, Anderson was a member of The Monster Mike Welch Band and Ronnie Earl & The Broadcasters (“Ronnie was my guitar hero.  Then he was my teacher\, then my boss.  Now he’s my musical Father\,” Anderson says)\, before eventually starting The Barrett Anderson Band in 2007. \nAnderson won a Boston Music Award (2013 Blues Artist of the Year)\, was on the Billboard charts (2020’s live album Hynoboogie spent 3 weeks on the Billboard Blues Album chart\, peaking at #6)\, and was nominated for a Blues Music Award (2023 Band of the Year with Anthony Geraci & The Boston Blues All-Stars)\, all the while playing nationally\, internationally\, and locally in Cambridge and the greater Boston area. \nIn addition to the musical roots\, long-time locals may recognize Anderson from a decade serving tables and bartending at The Sea Hag’s sister establishment\, Grendel’s Den\, or from Abodeon\, the mid-century modern shop started by his family. \nMusic starts every Wednesday at 6:30 at The Sea Hag Restaurant & Bar\, 49 Mt Auburn St\, and there’s no cover.  “We start while people are dining\,” Anderson states.  “It forces us to play dynamically\, dig deep\, and explore the space\, creating music that doesn’t demand attention but rewards it.”  He adds with a grin “We do get to turn up and demand attention too\, we just have to time it right.” \nJoining Anderson (vocals and guitar) are Paul Loranger (upright and electric bass)\, and Joey Pafumi (drums and percussion).  “This is the core of The Barrett Anderson Band\,” Anderson explains.  “The full band has wonderful additional musicians\, but for this gig tight and light was right.  This gives us the flexibility to learn material fast and improvise easily on the spot\, allowing for regular guests and specially themed evenings.  We’re making sure that each week is rewarding and unique.” \nThe Barrett Anderson Band are digging deep into their Cambridge roots for the first string of shows\, featuring local roots rock king Dennis Brennan as a special guest. \nBlues & Roots Wednesdays at The Sea Hag Restaurant & Bar\n49 Mt Auburn St\, Cambridge MA 02139\nMusic starts @ 6:30\nWednesday nights \n  \nWhat critics say about Barrett Anderson \nFrom Jay Clestowski\, Disciples of Sound: “Barrett Anderson continues to carry the torch that J. Geils left behind…  HypnoBoogie demonstrates that some of the best grooves come out of the ‘dirty water’ and that’s where they belong.” \nFrom JD Nash\, American Blues Scene: “This Bean Town foursome packs enough raw energy on stage to power the whole of New England.” \nFrom Chris Spector\, Midwest Record: “Anderson has the chops and spark to make a real statement his own way.  Hot stuff.” \nFrom Jay Miller\, The Patriot Ledger: “HypnoBoogie… is the kind of refreshingly vibrant\, genre-crossing album that is a throwback to the days when rock ‘n’ roll acknowledged its roots in blues\, but ventured wherever the spirit took it.” \nWhat critics say about The Sea Hag Restaurant & Bar \nFrom Sheryl Julian\, Boston Globe: “Harvard Square’s Sea Hag is the little sister to Grendel’s Den…” \nFrom Kara Baskin\, Boston Globe: “The team behind Grendel’s Den in Harvard Square has opened Sea Hag\, replacing The Bouthouse.  Wash ashore for fish and chips\, Jamaican beef patties\, arancini\, crab dip\, raw bar delights\, and muffins…” \nFrom Boston Restaurant Talk: “The Sea Hag opens in the former Boathouse space in Harvard Square.” \nFrom Marc Levy and Rónán Fitzgerald: “Grendel’s Den owner Kari Kuelzer is expanding in Harvard Square\, taking over the Boathouse location to open The Sea Hag Restaurant & Bar.” \nwww.barrettandersonband.com\nwww.seahag02138.com

SUMMARY:What Monuments Remember — and What They Forget: A Juneteenth Walk
DESCRIPTION:What do monuments teach us about slavery\, emancipation\, and the long struggle for civil rights? \n\n\n\n\nIn honor of Juneteenth\, join us at Mount Auburn Cemetery for a walking tour that explores how public memory is constructed in stone\, landscape\, and story. \nJuneteenth\, now a national holiday\, commemorates June 19\, 1865\, when Union troops arrived in Texas to enforce the freedom promised by the Emancipation Proclamation more than two years earlier—revealing the gap between the declaration of freedom and its lived reality. \nThis tour explores the lives and memorials of individuals connected to the long struggle for freedom and civil rights\, including authors\, abolitionists\, activists\, and political leaders. As we move through the cemetery landscape\, we’ll also examine how monuments shape public memory—sometimes clarifying the past\, and sometimes simplifying it.

SUMMARY:Jake Worthington
DESCRIPTION:For Big Loud Texas traditionalist Jake Worthington\, country music is in his DNA. The La Porte\, Texas native was raised on his grandfather’s porch performances of Ray Price\, Merle Haggard and George Jones\, and soon picked up his own Gibson acoustic to realize the breadth of his soon-to-be-classic\, wide\, and wild voice. Now\, Worthington breathes fresh life into dance halls\, beer joints\, and ballrooms from Texas to Tennessee with his growing catalog – his sophomore album When I Write The Song is out now with Miranda Lambert collaboration “Hello Shitty Day\,” “I’m The One (feat. Marty Stuart)\,” viral “It Ain’t The Whiskey” and more. Captivating the masses with his honky-tonk stylings\, the singer-songwriter hits the road this fall joining Zach Top as direct support on all dates of the Cold Beer & Country Music Tour followed by supporting slots on Jon Pardi’s Honkytonk Hollywood Tour. “I believe in country music as much as I believe in my next breath\,” Worthington declares\, and “blame it on my raising\, but I think there ought to be room for country in country music.”

SUMMARY:Windborne
DESCRIPTION:Windborne’s captivating show draws on the singers’ deep roots in traditions of vocal harmony\, while the absolute uniqueness of their artistic approach brings old songs into the present. Known for the innovation of their arrangements\, their harmonies are bold and anything but predictable. Instead of simply dazzling the audience with vocal fireworks; Windborne evokes a deep emotional response connecting their audience to the past\, distant places and themselves\, it’s no wonder they have been crowd favorites since starting to tour in 2018. Windborne is particularly known for our viral videos which have gained the group nearly 500\,000 followers singing at Mont Saint Michel in France\, and Cathedrals around the world! \nWith a 20-year background studying polyphonic music around the world\, Lauren Breunig\, Jeremy Carter-Gordon\, Lynn Rowan\, and Will Rowan share a vibrant energy onstage with a blending of voices that can only come from decades of friendship alongside dedicated practice. The ensemble shifts effortlessly between drastically different styles of music\, drawing their audience along on a journey that spans continents and centuries\, illuminating and expanding on the profound power and variation of the human voice. BBC Traveling Folk describes Windborne as “subverting expectations and redefining the genre [of vocal music]… just absolutely phenomenal!” \nAudiences and critics lavish praise upon the singers not only for their technical mastery\, but for the passion\, engagement\, and connection with each other and the audience that imbues each performance with a rare power. But there’s another\, crucial dimension to Windborne that guides and roots their artistry. They are adherents to folk music’s longtime alliance with social activism\, labor and civil rights\, and other movements that champion the oppressed\, the poor\, and the disenfranchised. Windborne’s dynamic harmonies breathe new life into old songs\, creating an experience that is rooted by its history\, but strikingly relevant to the contemporary listener.

SUMMARY:Son Little
DESCRIPTION:Son Little\, praised by American Songwriter as “one of the best songwriters working today\,” conceived his latest album\, Like Neptune\, in a cabin overlooking the Delaware River in upstate New York. Trading in the existential dread permeating his previous work for unbridled joy and self-acceptance\, Son Little transmutes the chronic pain of self-doubt into a beautiful and freeing opus about overcoming generational trauma. Hailed by Afropunk as “a stunning statement of purpose\,” Like Neptune decorates the altar of the primordial blues and elevating the labor of healing to high art. “I’ve always felt as though I was making music because I had to\, something inside compelled me. Fueled me\,” Little shared. “This the first time in a long time I’m making music for the pure joy of creating.” Son Little and his band\, comprised of Little on vocals/guitar\, Steve McKie (drums)\, and DeShawn Alexander (keys/bass)\, will tour North America for the first time support of Like Neptune through November and December\nRead Less
