SUMMARY:MAIN STAGE: Dancing Home | Palaver Strings | Artistic Partner
DESCRIPTION:Dancing Home explores themes of heritage\, belonging\, displacement\, and resilience through the lens of dance. At the heart of this program is ḥawwāsh by Kareem Roustom commissioned by Palaver Strings in 2024. Inspired by the ḥawwāsh\, or lead dancer of a traditional dabke dance\, this piece allows any musician to lead the ensemble at any given moment\, sharing fluid leadership through physical and sonic cues. This program also features Palaver’s arrangement of Bartok’s Romanian Dances\, original tunes by Maya French and Jamie Oshima\, and Kinan Azmeh’s Syrian Dances\, commissioned by Palaver in 2022. Dancing Home celebrates social dance as a meeting place for tradition and innovation\, and a vehicle for building resilience\, joy\, and trust. \nMain Stage Series\nMain Stage events are where the magic happens. Experience performances that inspire\, challenge\, and resonate long after the final note. You’ll hear bold artistic ideas and exceptional musicianship\, often featuring Longy’s distinguished faculty-artists and innovative artistic partners. Each event offers a rare opportunity to be part of artistry that is both inspirational in the moment and lasting in its impact.

SUMMARY:Jane Monheit Quartet
DESCRIPTION:Jane Monheit is a jazz and adult contemporary vocalist with a deep passion for the Great American Songbook. With many highly acclaimed solo albums\, countless awards and accolades\, and over two decades of international touring  experience\, Jane has not only been an extremely successful bandleader\, but has had the privilege of making music with some of the greatest musicians\, arrangers\, and producers in jazz. \nDuring her childhood\, Jane studied woodwinds and piano\, spent a decade  performing in award winning choirs\, and participated in community theater on Long  Island. Throughout all of this\, her focus remained on jazz\, especially interpretation of the Songbook. At the age of 20\, during her senior year at the prestigious Manhattan School Of Music\, Jane placed second in the Thelonious Monk Competition\, now known as the Hancock Competition. This led to an incredible career trajectory\, catapulting Jane into the jazz stratosphere nearly overnight. \nBy 22\, Jane was working with legends such as Tommy Flanagan\, Ron Carter\, and Kenny Barron\, recording her first albums\, and touring the planet. This led to  collaborations with jazz luminaries such as Terence Blanchard\, Ivan Lins\, Tom Harrell\, John Pizzarelli\, Christian McBride\, Vince Mendoza\, Jorge Calandrelli\, and many more. Countless television appearances followed\, including David Letterman\, Conan O’Brien\, CBS Sunday Morning\, Good Morning America\, The Tonight Show\, The View\, and many popular international talk shows. Several successful film soundtracks have  also included Jane’s music\, including Sky Captain And The World Of Tomorrow and Never Let Me Go. \nAfter more than twenty years\, twelve studio albums and countless recorded  guest appearances\, Jane has continued to tour the world nearly nonstop\, including  playing iconic venues such as Carnegie Hall\, The Hollywood Bowl\, and headlining at nearly every legendary jazz club on the planet\, most notably NY stalwarts such as the Village Vanguard and Birdland. In addition to touring\, she also writes English lyrics for Ivan Lins\, and uses the knowledge and experience she has gained both at Manhattan  School Of Music and on the legendary bandstands of the world to educate and uplift  students worldwide. Jane resides in Los Angeles with her husband of over twenty years\, drummer Rick Montalbano\, and their son.

SUMMARY:Yixuan Huang\, piano | Light and Warmth: A Journey Through Sound | Graduating Student Project
DESCRIPTION:Yixuan Huang is a student of Jessica Osborne \nMy recital shows who I am as an artist — someone who finds comfort\, light\, and honesty in music. These works travel across time\, from Scarlatti’s clarity to Prokofiev’s intensity. Together they tell a story about warmth and strength: how music can carry both tenderness and power. \nI begin with Scarlatti’s bright and joyful sonata\, full of clean lines and energy. Schubert’s Sonata D.664 then opens a more intimate and poetic world. Clara Schumann’s Variations Op.20 brings a voice of love and courage from a female composer of the Romantic era. Prokofiev’s Sonata No.7 ends with dramatic tension and fire. Finally\, the Schubert four-hand Rondo celebrates musical friendship and connection. \nThrough this program\, I want to share how music has been my language of warmth and honesty\, something that helps me connect deeply with others and bring light to their hearts. \n\n\nMusic has been a part of Yixuan’s life for as long as she can remember. Her music grows from the melodies and rhythms that filled her childhood home. Surrounded by both classical and folk traditions\, she learned to see music as a language of warmth and honesty. Through every note\, she hopes to offer comfort and connection\, letting people feel seen\, understood\, and gently healed by sound.
