On April 20th, Harvard Square Business Association Hospitality Committee members held their bi-annual Clean Up Day. Assisted by the industrious staff from the City of Cambridge’s Department of Public Works, HSBA volunteers spent hours scouring the Square, just in time for Earth Day!
Throughout the day, teams from 15 businesses power-washed trash barrels, removed stickers from lampposts, picked cigarette butts out from the brick crevices, cleaned & swept sidewalks and picked up trash. We send our sincerest thanks to Cambridge Savings Bank who contracted with Atlantic Power Wash to clean and brighten the area around The Pit and the Kiosk at sunrise.
Denise Jillson, executive director of the HSBA, said, “We are so grateful to all those who helped out; the city does a great job in keeping the Square clean, but our spring and fall cleanup days really make a difference in the appearance of the Square. These events also build community and create a sense of pride and stewardship. Our tagline, ‘caring for the Square since 1910’ could not be more apt!”
The following businesses graciously volunteered in beautifying the Square:
• Boston Meditation
• Cambridge Savings Bank
• Cambridge Trust
• Capital One Café
• Charles Hotel
• Edward Jones
• Fairfield Inn & Suites® Boston Cambridge
• GoNation
• Harvard University Employees Credit Union
• Harvard Square Business Association
• Off the Beaten Path Food Tours
• Passim
• Trademark Tours
• Trinity Property Management
• Webster Bank
A special thanks to Fjallraven who hosted volunteers for an after party at their store at 63 Church Street. Also, a big shout to the Williams Agency who provided volunteers with complimentary tickets to their Boston JerkFest on June 23rd.
