SUMMARY:Divergent Studio | Divergent Portraits: Eve Beglarian
DESCRIPTION:The first guest composer of the 2026 edition of Longy’s Divergent Studio is Grammy Award winning composer/performer Eve Beglarian. The Los Angeles Times calls her a “humane\, idealistic rebel and a musical sensualist” while the Academy of Arts and Letters awarded her for “a spectacular body of work that innovates and takes enormous risks.” Tonight\, our students and faculty perform works from this truly spectacular body of work\, largely drawn from the River Project\, a 2009 ‘human powered’ trip the composer took down the Mississippi\, musically documenting the people she met\, the places she visited\, and the sounds that she heard.

SUMMARY:Yixuan Huang\, piano | Light and Warmth: A Journey Through Sound | Graduating Student Project
DESCRIPTION:Yixuan Huang is a student of Jessica Osborne \nMy recital shows who I am as an artist — someone who finds comfort\, light\, and honesty in music. These works travel across time\, from Scarlatti’s clarity to Prokofiev’s intensity. Together they tell a story about warmth and strength: how music can carry both tenderness and power. \nI begin with Scarlatti’s bright and joyful sonata\, full of clean lines and energy. Schubert’s Sonata D.664 then opens a more intimate and poetic world. Clara Schumann’s Variations Op.20 brings a voice of love and courage from a female composer of the Romantic era. Prokofiev’s Sonata No.7 ends with dramatic tension and fire. Finally\, the Schubert four-hand Rondo celebrates musical friendship and connection. \nThrough this program\, I want to share how music has been my language of warmth and honesty\, something that helps me connect deeply with others and bring light to their hearts. \n\n\nMusic has been a part of Yixuan’s life for as long as she can remember. Her music grows from the melodies and rhythms that filled her childhood home. Surrounded by both classical and folk traditions\, she learned to see music as a language of warmth and honesty. Through every note\, she hopes to offer comfort and connection\, letting people feel seen\, understood\, and gently healed by sound.
