SUMMARY:Rachel McCartney
DESCRIPTION:Rachel McCartney is releasing a new album\, Taming Dragons\, and sharing it at Club Passim feels like a true homecoming. McCartney celebrated her previous record release at Passim seventeen years ago\, while very pregnant with her now teenage son. If you were hanging out in Boston in the early 2000s\, it’s likely you’re no stranger to McCartney’s music. After stepping back from music to fully commit to her career as a labor and delivery nurse\, McCartney is back on the scene with a new record and over a decade of stories to share. Taming Dragons was produced by Zach Hickman and along with Zach\, features musical contributions by Rich Hinman\, Dave Brophy\, and James Rohr\, along with harmony vocals by Rose Polenzani\, Vivian Sessoms\, and McCartney’s long-time collaborator and friend Teddy Goldstein\, who will kick off the night’s festivities.

SUMMARY:Abigail Lapell
DESCRIPTION:Toronto songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Abigail Lapell returns with More Songs About Love\, the extended companion to her JUNO-nominated 2024 album Anniversary. An evocative collection of original love songs\, Anniversary was produced with Great Lake Swimmers’ Tony Dekker and recorded at 200-year-old St Mark’s Church in Niagara-on-the-Lake\, Ontario. Dekker helped shape the sessions’ spooky\, resonant sound and also lent his voice to a couple of spellbinding duets. \nBalancing upbeat earworms with elegiac ballads\, More Songs About Love adds eight new stripped-down tracks to the collection. Combining cynical and sentimental elements\, the collection ultimately emerges as an earnest celebration of love. Anniversary & More Songs About Love is out May 3\, 2025 on Outside Music. \nOver the past six years and four spellbinding releases\, Lapell has garnered four Canadian Folk Music Awards and accrued a staggering 60 million streams across online platforms. She tours regularly across Canada\, the U.S. and Europe.

SUMMARY:Rachael Kilgour & Jean Rohe
DESCRIPTION:Rachael Kilgour writes in hopes of finding a truth she can live with. Her heartfelt release\, “My Father Loved Me”\, was written in memory of her late Canadian dad and and led her on an extensive tour across the U.S. and Canada. In the spare and often gutting language for which she is known\, Kilgour poses questions about belonging\, inheritance and grief and triumphantly affirms the value of one ordinary working man’s life. Her live performances radiate with sincerity and humor. \nJean Rohe writes one-of-a-kind narrative songs\, concerned as much with the interior lives of her narrators as with the sociopolitical forces that shape them. Her long list of awards is a testament to the breadth of her vision\, spanning prizes in roots music\, song craft\, lyric writing\, theater arts\, social-justice work\, jazz performance\, and arts education from organizations as diverse as the Brooklyn Arts Council\, The NYC Women’s Fund for Media\, the Montreux Jazz Festival\, the Telluride Bluegrass Festival\, the Jonathan Larson Foundation\, the Johnny Mercer Foundation\, and MacDowell.

SUMMARY:Caiola
DESCRIPTION:Jordan Caiola (CAI•OLA) is a songwriter/musician/producer based out of Philadelphia. He founded the indie rock band Mo Lowda & The Humble in 2010 and\, due to its intense touring schedule\, the band became his main priority along with his side project NightSeason (founded in 2016) – an indie/electro-pop producer duo. Though he always felt writing folk songs was his true “wheelhouse”\, it wasn’t until the nationwide lockdown in early 2020 that he finally put aside the time to record a collection of those songs for his first solo album ‘Only Real When Shared’. His second record\, a more mature and textural follow up entitled\, ‘This Could Be Everything’\, was released August 2nd\, 2024 and is streaming everywhere.

SUMMARY:Case Oats
DESCRIPTION:Casey Walker never thought she’d write an album. A novel\, maybe\, when she was in undergraduate school for creative writing. But music always called to her\, and it wasn’t until she moved to Chicago and met a stable of musicians that she realized that recording was within reach. \nWalker formed Case Oats in 2018 and turned the band into a Chicago fixture until finally\, in 2025\, signing with Merge Records\, and releasing a debut record to critical acclaim. Chicago Sun-Times called it a “standout debut.” Rolling Stone hailed it as “a winning set of alt-country and folk songs with warm melodies\, novelistic verses\, and unassuming vocals that recall Daniel Johnston and Kimya Dawson.” \nThe album was produced by Walker’s longtime bandmate and fiancé\, Spencer Tweedy (drums)\, and recorded in a makeshift Chicago basement studio\, in the bungalow rented by Jason Ashworth (bass) and Max Subar (guitar and pedal steel)\, featuring fiddle work by Scott Daniel and guest pianist/organist Nolan Chin. Walker’s songs get to the heart of relationships and experience\, and bring city life down to earth—to the porch swing\, where Walker believes everyone ultimately belongs.

SUMMARY:Kipling Drozek and the Chaperones
DESCRIPTION:Kipling Drozek is twelve years old. His favorite things are video games\, “Weird Al” Yankovic\, Pokémon\, LEGO Mario\, and food. His least favorite things? Long walks\, school\, and consequences. Kip began writing music during COVID\, releasing his first album\, Oreshadow\, at the age of ten—and earning the record for the youngest musician ever to headline Club Passim. \nNow Kip is back with his sophomore outing\, Ick. Ick is a concept album all about things that Kip does not like: love songs\, coffee\, long car drives\, writer’s block\, cleaning his room\, and more. Featuring a full band and recorded/produced by the Grammy-nominated Zachariah Hickman\, the album is filled with catchy\, intricate\, open-hearted anthems about childhood\, often veering into accidentally profound reflections on the human experience.
