DESCRIPTION:The story of Waterville\, OH indie-folk trio Oliver Hazard – Michael Belazis (vocals\, guitar) and Devin East (vocals\, guitar)\, joined by Nate Miner (keys\, vocals)–is a modern take on classic band mythmaking. One member returned home to Ohio after leading camping trips in California and decided to make an album with two childhood friends. They won a Facebook raffle to record one song at a studio–but instead\, they played their entire album straight through in a single take\, resulting in their 2018 debut LP\, 34 N River. The album was hailed as a “folk-pop masterpiece” by The Fader\, and soon after\, the band landed slots at Bonnaroo and Mountain Jam. In 2019\, they released their 6-track EP\, The Flood\, which Billboard described as a “souvenir.” Their self-titled sophomore album followed in July 2023\, incorporating music from their earlier Northern Lights EP along with five new songs. Most recently\, they released their Raindrop River EP in December 2024. Oliver Hazard’s next chapter continues to tell the story of Waterville\, Ohio–a small town with a big heart. Their music serves as a soundtrack to everyday life\, lifting spirits and inviting listeners to find beauty in the ordinary.

It’s an acronym for Cost of Living Adjustment\, a fitting conceptual framework for the band’s third record. Why? Because C.O.L.A. considers\, among other things\, socialism vs. hell. It considers: rolling the dice of life. The eerie and sweet pangs  that nostalgia can provoke. This is not new territory for band members Tim Darcy\, Evan Cartwright\, and Ben Stidworthy. It is\, in Cartwright’s words “a deepening of what we’ve been doing.” C.O.L.A. is an intricate\, beautiful\, and sometimes strange record. It is the band’s most refined offering. A perfection of carefully honed aesthetic impulses.\nCola\, as a band\, says Darcy is defined by its “tasteful minimalism.” A deep appreciation for making music that is romantic\, subtle\, and deceptively intense. C.O.L.A.\, however\, is the band’s most maximalist work to date. This is a little tongue and cheek (“We were so worried\,” says Cartwright\, “About all the songs on this record being too different”). In practice\, this maximalism means that a song like “Hedgesitting\,” has both live drums and a sample drum loop. “Hedgesitting\,” is a gorgeous\, lush song. It’s like a deconstructed\, chopped & screwed b-side from the Cure’s Disintegration. It’s also a little indebted to Sarah Records. “When you were young\,” Darcy sings at the song’s start\, “you came to make it.”\nC.O.L.A.\, like everything written by the band\, is inherently collaborative. The band writes everything separately\, then comes together and works in the studio. Look again to “Hedgesetting\,” to see this in action\, which started out with chords that Darcy had sent\, then the band expanded it together\, with Stidworthy remixing it right before heading to the studio. This division of labor works intuitively. It is a part of the band’s DNA to say\, take an arrangement Stidworthy wrote\, and then have Darcy and Cartwright build upon it. Take “Favoured Over the Ride\,” as an example. “I wanted to create a dusky\, melancholy palette for Tim to write lyrics for\,” says Stidworthy. The song starts with a lonely\, dreamy guitar riff. Then there’s a crisp line of bass and it all comes into focus: “What’s on the ceiling that’s caught your gaze?” sings Darcy. It’s a moment of clarity on a record that is interested abstraction. C.O.L.A. is full of these clarifying moments: where a whole swirl of feelings become so clear that it almost hurts a little bit.\n\nOne of the goals with C.O.L.A. was to have the melody guide the lyrics. This is a distinct shift from the sprechgesang that has been an anchor for many of Darcy’s earlier records. Here\, the vocal melodies are on the same level as all of the other melodies on the record. But the lyrics are no less poetic\, no less precise than anything Darcy has written before (“It’s not\,” he jokes\, “like we’re making a Cocteau Twins song.”) The result is a record  that is ruthlessly aware of all of its parts\, and treats them all as equally important. C.O.L.A. is a record that speaks to itself:  where all of its parts are in direct conversation with each other. Sounds do not blur\, even when they are expansive. It is abstract\, oblique\, sometimes strange\, whatever you want to call it. But it is also beautiful\, in the classic sense. Beautiful like a painting can be beautiful. Really\, really gorgeous. Almost chiseled in the way it plays so deliberately with experimentation. On “Skywriter’s Sigh\,” for example\, things sizzle and flicker. It touches on the sublime. It is Cola\, the band\, at their very best. Cola – Cost of Living Adjustment – Bio\nC.O.L.A. is sort of a self-titled album. It’s an acronym for Cost of Living Adjustment\, a fitting conceptual framework for the band’s third record. Why? Because C.O.L.A. considers\, among other things\, socialism vs. hell. It considers: rolling the dice of life. The eerie and sweet pangs  that nostalgia can provoke. This is not new territory for band members Tim Darcy\, Evan Cartwright\, and Ben Stidworthy. It is\, in Cartwright’s words “a deepening of what we’ve been doing.” C.O.L.A. is an intricate\, beautiful\, and sometimes strange record. It is the band’s most refined offering. A perfection of carefully honed aesthetic impulses.\n\nCola\, as a band\, says Darcy is defined by its “tasteful minimalism.” A deep appreciation for making music that is romantic\, subtle\, and deceptively intense. C.O.L.A.\, however\, is the band’s most maximalist work to date. This is a little tongue and cheek (“We were so worried\,” says Cartwright\, “About all the songs on this record being too different”). In practice\, this maximalism means that a song like “Hedgesitting\,” has both live drums and a sample drum loop. “Hedgesitting\,” is a gorgeous\, lush song. It’s like a deconstructed\, chopped & screwed b-side from the Cure’s Disintegration. It’s also a little indebted to Sarah Records. “When you were young\,” Darcy sings at the song’s start\, “you came to make it.”\nC.O.L.A.\, like everything written by the band\, is inherently collaborative. The band writes everything separately\, then comes together and works in the studio. Look again to “Hedgesetting\,” to see this in action\, which started out with chords that Darcy had sent\, then the band expanded it together\, with Stidworthy remixing it right before heading to the studio. This division of labor works intuitively. It is a part of the band’s DNA to say\, take an arrangement Stidworthy wrote\, and then have Darcy and Cartwright build upon it. Take “Favoured Over the Ride\,” as an example. “I wanted to create a dusky\, melancholy palette for Tim to write lyrics for\,” says Stidworthy. The song starts with a lonely\, dreamy guitar riff. Then there’s a crisp line of bass and it all comes into focus: “What’s on the ceiling that’s caught your gaze?” sings Darcy. It’s a moment of clarity on a record that is interested abstraction. C.O.L.A. is full of these clarifying moments: where a whole swirl of feelings become so clear that it almost hurts a little bit.\n\nOne of the goals with C.O.L.A. was to have the melody guide the lyrics. This is a distinct shift from the sprechgesang that has been an anchor for many of Darcy’s earlier records. Here\, the vocal melodies are on the same level as all of the other melodies on the record. But the lyrics are no less poetic\, no less precise than anything Darcy has written before (“It’s not\,” he jokes\, “like we’re making a Cocteau Twins song.”) The result is a record  that is ruthlessly aware of all of its parts\, and treats them all as equally important. C.O.L.A. is a record that speaks to itself:  where all of its parts are in direct conversation with each other. Sounds do not blur\, even when they are expansive. It is abstract\, oblique\, sometimes strange\, whatever you want to call it. But it is also beautiful\, in the classic sense. Beautiful like a painting can be beautiful. Really\, really gorgeous. Almost chiseled in the way it plays so deliberately with experimentation. On “Skywriter’s Sigh\,” for example\, things sizzle and flicker. It touches on the sublime. It is Cola\, the band\, at their very best.

DESCRIPTION:The San Diego via Boston alt trio that disappeared before most folks caught on. Jejune\, formed at Berklee College of Music in 1996 and relocating to San Diego\, spent years building a sound that owed as much to dream pop as it did to the emo scene they were part of. Male-female dual vocals\, guitars that shifted from jangly to blown-out\, songs that hit harder than anything around them at the time. Putting out two genre-defining records on Big Wheel Recreation\, Junk and This Afternoon’s Malady\, a split with Jimmy Eat World\, and then abruptly breaking up in the year 2000\, leaving the world to catch up. The world did. The records lived on in record collections and passed between fans like a secret worth keeping — and a younger generation found them just as hungry for it as anyone who was there the first time around. Now\, after a successful run through Japan on the Sakura Nights tour and some excellent record reissues courtesy of The Numero Group\, the emo indie rockers are back and touring the U.S. for the first time in over twenty-five years. All three original members. All the songs. No excuses to miss it.

DESCRIPTION:Buck Meek – Haunted Mountain \nFor his latest solo album\, Buck Meek\, lead guitarist of Big Thief\, went back to Texas – to the \nborder town of Tornillo 560 miles from his hometown of Wimberley – to record Haunted \nMountain. The band – Buck (guitar\, vocals)\, Adam Brisbin (guitar)\, Austin Vaughn (drums)\, Ken \nWoodward (bass)\, Mat Davidson (pedal steel\, vocals)\, and Dylan Meek (keys) – recorded the \neleven songs that make up Haunted Mountain over the course of two weeks at Sonic Ranch \nstudio. The album was produced by Davidson and engineered and mixed by Adrian Olsen. The \nalbum follows Meek’s 2018 self-titled debut and 2021’s Two Saviors\, with records as a part of \nBig Thief in-between – U.F.O.F. and Two Hands (2019)\, and Dragon New Warm Mountain I \nBelieve In You (2022).

Join us this summer as we travel across the country for a one-of-a-kind concert\, featuring the Contest winner plus two up-and-coming artists from each city. \nThis year’s winner is Cure For Paranoia\, the genre-bending project of Dallas-based rapper Cameron McCloud and friends\, a dynamic group whose music is playful and political. McCloud started Cure For Paranoia to share the therapeutic experience that “creating music with his people” offered him. A pre-school teacher by day\, he posted a new rap every day on social media for all of 2025 \nOpening acts to be announced soon! \n$.25 from each ticket purchased will go to The Shout Syndicate\, a Boston-based\, volunteer-run fundraising effort who raises money to help fund youth-led arts programs at proven non-profit creative youth development organizations in Greater Boston. DESCRIPTION:Simply put\, Tortoise has spent nearly 25 years making music that defies description. While the Chicago-based instrumental quintet has nodded to dub\, rock\, jazz\, electronica and minimalism throughout its revered and influential six-album discography\, the resulting sounds have always been distinctly\, even stubbornly\, their own. \nIt’s a fact that remains true on “The Catastrophist\,” Tortoise’s first studio album in nearly seven years. And it’s an album where moody\, synth-swept jams like the opening title track cozy up next to hypnotic\, bass-and-beat missives like “Shake Hands With Danger” and a downright strange cover of David Essex’s 1973 radio smash sung by U.S. Maple’s Todd Rittmann. Throughout\, the songs transcend expectations as often as they delight the eardrums. \nTortoise\, comprised of multi-instrumentalists Dan Bitney\, John Herndon\, Doug McCombs\, John McEntire and Jeff Parker\, has always thrived on sudden bursts of inspiration. And for “The Catastrophist\,” the spark came in 2010 when the group was commissioned by the City of Chicago to compose a suite of music rooted in its ties to the area’s noted jazz and improvised music communities.
