DESCRIPTION:Simply put\, Tortoise has spent nearly 25 years making music that defies description. While the Chicago-based instrumental quintet has nodded to dub\, rock\, jazz\, electronica and minimalism throughout its revered and influential six-album discography\, the resulting sounds have always been distinctly\, even stubbornly\, their own. \nIt’s a fact that remains true on “The Catastrophist\,” Tortoise’s first studio album in nearly seven years. And it’s an album where moody\, synth-swept jams like the opening title track cozy up next to hypnotic\, bass-and-beat missives like “Shake Hands With Danger” and a downright strange cover of David Essex’s 1973 radio smash sung by U.S. Maple’s Todd Rittmann. Throughout\, the songs transcend expectations as often as they delight the eardrums. \nTortoise\, comprised of multi-instrumentalists Dan Bitney\, John Herndon\, Doug McCombs\, John McEntire and Jeff Parker\, has always thrived on sudden bursts of inspiration. And for “The Catastrophist\,” the spark came in 2010 when the group was commissioned by the City of Chicago to compose a suite of music rooted in its ties to the area’s noted jazz and improvised music communities.

Join us this summer as we travel across the country for a one-of-a-kind concert\, featuring the Contest winner plus two up-and-coming artists from each city. \nThis year’s winner is Cure For Paranoia\, the genre-bending project of Dallas-based rapper Cameron McCloud and friends\, a dynamic group whose music is playful and political. McCloud started Cure For Paranoia to share the therapeutic experience that “creating music with his people” offered him. A pre-school teacher by day\, he posted a new rap every day on social media for all of 2025 \nOpening acts to be announced soon! \n$.25 from each ticket purchased will go to The Shout Syndicate\, a Boston-based\, volunteer-run fundraising effort who raises money to help fund youth-led arts programs at proven non-profit creative youth development organizations in Greater Boston. DESCRIPTION:Buck Meek – Haunted Mountain \nFor his latest solo album\, Buck Meek\, lead guitarist of Big Thief\, went back to Texas – to the \nborder town of Tornillo 560 miles from his hometown of Wimberley – to record Haunted \nMountain. The band – Buck (guitar\, vocals)\, Adam Brisbin (guitar)\, Austin Vaughn (drums)\, Ken \nWoodward (bass)\, Mat Davidson (pedal steel\, vocals)\, and Dylan Meek (keys) – recorded the \neleven songs that make up Haunted Mountain over the course of two weeks at Sonic Ranch \nstudio. The album was produced by Davidson and engineered and mixed by Adrian Olsen. The \nalbum follows Meek’s 2018 self-titled debut and 2021’s Two Saviors\, with records as a part of \nBig Thief in-between – U.F.O.F. and Two Hands (2019)\, and Dragon New Warm Mountain I \nBelieve In You (2022).

DESCRIPTION:The San Diego via Boston alt trio that disappeared before most folks caught on. Jejune\, formed at Berklee College of Music in 1996 and relocating to San Diego\, spent years building a sound that owed as much to dream pop as it did to the emo scene they were part of. Male-female dual vocals\, guitars that shifted from jangly to blown-out\, songs that hit harder than anything around them at the time. Putting out two genre-defining records on Big Wheel Recreation\, Junk and This Afternoon’s Malady\, a split with Jimmy Eat World\, and then abruptly breaking up in the year 2000\, leaving the world to catch up. The world did. The records lived on in record collections and passed between fans like a secret worth keeping — and a younger generation found them just as hungry for it as anyone who was there the first time around. Now\, after a successful run through Japan on the Sakura Nights tour and some excellent record reissues courtesy of The Numero Group\, the emo indie rockers are back and touring the U.S. for the first time in over twenty-five years. All three original members. All the songs. No excuses to miss it.
