Harvard Square Pulse

The Harvard Square Business Association (HSBA) is delighted to announce the launch of the Harvard Square Pulse podcast. Pulse’s inaugural segment, which aired on March 18th, features an in-depth conversation between Denise Jillson, executive director of the HSBA and Caleb Moulema, founder of TedX Harvard Square.

The Pulse’s second segment will air on Wednesday, April 1st and spotlights Daniel Berger-Jones, founder of Cambridge Historical Tours and Boston History Company.

This particular initiative was proposed by HSBA board member, Yvette Wilks of Wilks Productions Consultancy during a discussion at a HSBA Hospitality Committee meeting late last year. HSBA staff enthusiastically accepted the challenge and is grateful to Yvette Wilks and members of the Hospitality Committee for their prompting.

Jillson said, “The HSBA was founded in 1910. Our mission, which is to ‘promote commerce in Harvard Square…while being good stewards of the public space’ is as relevant today as it was 116 years ago. The major difference between then and now is the way we “promote”. We suspect the early founders could not have imagined websites, social media platforms and electronic newsletters, but believe they would have embraced them as naturally as we have.

She went on to say, “The HSBA is a 501( c ) ( 6 ) not-for-profit organization which is not charitable nor tax-exempt. As the executive director, I report to a 23 member board, (5 Officers and 18 Directors) who often suggest and guide initiatives. In fact, our signature events such as, Oktoberfest, MayFair, Winter Carnival, Salsa Squared, our Think Pink campaign and Bookish Ball celebration were driven by the board over many decades. We are truly appreciative of their continual encouragement which supports the association’s growth and staff’s creativity.”

More to come!
