Harvard Athletics and the Harvard Square Business Association are teaming up to support the food pantry at the First Parish in Harvard Square, and have announced that $10 from every ticket sold through this link for the Harvard Men’s Hockey game against Princeton on Friday, February 27 will go towards the food pantry.
Fans who enter the Bright-Landry Hockey Center on Friday, February 27 for the 7:00pm game with a non-perishable food item will be given a Harvard Athletics souvenir at the Harvard Hockey welcome table, which is located at the top of section 21 in the Bright-Landry concourse.
“Harvard Square’s community fridge and pantry, also known as ‘Fridge in the Square’ is hosted by the First Parish Church. It has been stewarded by the Harvard Square Business Association, Lesley University’s Threshold program, the parish and community volunteers since 2020. As always, during the cold weather and particularly around the holiday season, the demand for food increases and remains unabated as we enter the new year,” said Harvard Square Business Association Executive Director Denise Jillson. “We’re grateful and honored to be partnering with Harvard Athletics to support our unhoused and food insecure neighbors in our community and look forward to using this hockey game to help make a meaningful impact.”
Harvard Square businesses who purchase tickets will be entered into a drawing, where a representative from their business will be selected at random to drop the puck before the game gets underway alongside players from both the Harvard and Princeton hockey teams.
The food will be dropped off at the First Parish Church on a to be determined date in March with representatives from Harvard’s Athletic Department and the HSBA after proceeds are collected from the evening, along with all of the food that gets donated from fans on game day.
Fans who have any questions about the evening’s festivities can contact Harvard’s Assistant Director of Athletics Joe Bradlee.
