Hot Chocolate Winner Announced
Last Saturday, as part of our fabulous ongoing Winter Carnival events, the HSBA held a Hot Chocolate Tasting Contest. Our restaurant participants were; Finale, Fire + Ice, Henrietta’s Table and J P Licks. Hundreds turned out to sample our entries and we are delighted to announce our 2010 winner!

Go Green Walk/Ride Hot Breakfast in Harvard Square
The Go Green Hot Free Breakfast in Harvard Square is a Celebration of the Green Streets Initiative’s “Walk/Ride Days” program. The event is co-sponsored by the Harvard Square Business Association, Oggi Gourmet, JP Licks, Boloco and the Charles Hotel and is part of the Harvard Square Winter Carnival 2010 from January 12th – February 28th.

Harvard Square Business Association Centennial Celebration
The Harvard Square Business Association was established in 1910 and Incorporated on May 20, 1936. The signed and sealed document of incorporation states, “The object of the association shall be to advance the commercial, industrial, and public interests of Harvard Square; to promote a commercial exchange; to accumulate and give to its members business information; to adjust controversies and misunderstandings; to establish and maintain uniformity in commercial transactions; and to promote just and equitable principles of trade.”

Third Annual Everyone LOVES LATKES Party!
The Harvard Square Business Association (HSBA) looks forward to transforming Winthrop Park into a free public celebration of Hanukkah for people of all ages this Sunday. Over 500 FREE Latkes are being prepared for the event and will be served by gracious HSBA Member Restaurants; Grendels Den, Small Plates, Café of India, Upstairs on the Square, b. good restaurant, Upper Crust Pizza, Tommy Doyle’s and the Hong Kong.

Join us for a Go Green Walk Ride Friday and HARVARD SCARE square wide-party! Magicians and Mimes will take over the streets of Harvard SCARE in preparation for a costume parade for children and an all ages “Monster Mash” block party. Arrive dressed to thrill and enjoy an evening of entertainment and costume contests, thrills, chills, prizes and surprises!
Bike Film Fest in Harvard Square
The fifth annual Boston Bike Film Festival kicks off Friday night, October 23, 2009 and continues through Saturday night! The festival will feature work from filmmakers nationwide including short films, feature length and animated films. The venue for both nights of the 2009 Boston Bike Film Festival will be the Brattle Theater in Harvard Square. Festival hours are from 7-11 p.m.

Passing the Torch at Bob Slate, Stationer
Seventy five years ago Robert Slate began selling paper and pencils at 8 Holyoke St. in Harvard Square as Bob Slate, Stationer. He persevered, survived the depression, nurtured his shop through the forties, thrived in the fifties, and unknown to himself created a legacy by orchestrating a seamless transition of responsibility to his sons Justin starting in 1963 and Mallory in 1973.

Oktoberfest 2009
Join the HONK! Festival Parade leaving Davis Square at noon and arriving at the Oktoberfest at 1:00 pm to “Reclaim the Streets for Horns, Bikes and Feet!” Harvard Square will welcome 25 Honk! Bands and their rolling, strolling, biking, dancing, skating, stilt dancing, costumed and puppet friends in an ambulatory spectacle!
