Boston Globe says, “Salt & Olive feels like an immaculately stocked pantry”

Congratulations to our newest HSBA member, Mary Taylor-Owner of Salt & Olive for the tremendous article and review in the Boston Globe!

“Mary Dean Taylor, a former shoe executive, traded in a life of laces and soles for oils and vinegars. Her new Salt & Olive shop is the culmination of extensive travels and a serious education in olive oil (in Italy). The bright and inviting space in Harvard Square, with large windows and black wood floors, feels like an immaculately stocked pantry. Divided in two, the larger, more prominent half is lined with shining canisters of oils ($16-$30) from Spain and Italy, infused with seasonings such as chipotle and herbes de Provence; and white and dark balsamic vinegars in maple, blackberry, and espresso flavors. Scattered around the containers are stacks of tasting cups, pieces of bread for sampling, and menu cards. The smaller room houses one wall of spices, both rare and recognizable, and another wall of assorted salts.

Salt & Olive fuses an entrepreneur’s business savvy with a lifelong love of food. All the products are meticulously curated, chosen to encourage interesting combinations. Taylor says her reason for selling spices and salts with oils and vinegars is to inspire people “to get creative and make things.” Salt & Olive, 1160 Massachusetts Ave., Harvard Square, Cambridge, 857-242-4118, www.saltandolive.com.”
