Harvard Square is aglow with holiday spirit. As the days grow shorter, the sights and sounds of early winter fill the streets. The Square radiates warmth and welcoming light and will continue to do so throughout the entire winter season. Our display this year, (white lights, colored lights, evergreen swags and classic red velvet bows) brightens our days, warms our nights and is made possible through the generosity of many Harvard Square Business Association members.

Everyone Loves Latkes

The Harvard Square Business Association celebrated Hanukkah by serving free Latkes on Saturday, December 8th at our 7th annual “Everyone Loves Latkes” Party! 

Berk Shoes Holiday Party Friday

We at Berk Shoes are opening our doors to the public Friday December 21st From 9pm-11pm for our first ever Holiday Party. All guests recieve a gift bag that, among other treats, features a 20% off coupon to be redeemed on any non-sale items the following day.

Harvard Square Launched Creating Art to End Homelessness

The Outside In Project launched its national campaign to help end homelessness with its first action in Harvard Square on Saturday, December 15th by completely altering the Palmer Street facade of 8 Brattle Street with thought provoking posters. The art installation and community action will took place between 12:00 noon and 4:00 p.m. and a public reception was held on the corner of Palmer and Brattle Streets at 3:00 p.m.

Larz Anderson Bridge Construction Updates

The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) is undertaking a major project to rehabilitate and restore the historic Anderson Memorial Bridge, a key Charles River crossing. 

Cambridge Firefighters Join With Marines in Annual “Toys-For-Tots” Drive

Cambridge Firefighters will once again partner with the United States Marine Corps Reserve in collecting toys in the annual “Toys-for-Tots” drive. Now in its’ 64th year, the program was started in Los Angeles, CA when a handful of Marine Reservists distributed 5,000 toys to needy children on Christmas Eve 1947.

Celebrate Fall with the L.L.Bean Bootmobile

On Sun., October 21 those who are out and about in Harvard Square will have a chance to see the L.L.Bean Bootmobile – a larger-than-life sized vehicle in the form of the famous L.L.Bean Boot.

September is Revival Month in Harvard Square

Last year, the Harvard Square Business Association (HSBA) declared September Revival Month in Harvard Square. It celebrated the release of local writer Scott Alarik’s award-winning folk music novel, Revival, along with a series of events centered on themes of tradition and renewal.

Famous and Infamous, the Fourth Annual Open Archives Tour

For the fourth year in a row, Cambridge archives will open their doors and invite the public in to see the rare items that are rarely seen. Residents and visitors will be given the opportunity to see inside twelve archives. The fourth annual Open Archives Tour will feature tours inside cultural, City, Harvard University and MIT archives on four separate days.
