Featuring a post-film conversation
Marjane Satrapi adapts her own groundbreaking graphic novel into an animated autobiography. Not a traditional portrait of a renowned historical woman, it’s more like a hand-drawn diary of a young girl’s coming of age during and after the Iranian Revolution. ‘Marji’ and her loved ones suffer the brutality of a fundamentalist regime while she grows from an outspoken child into a punk-rock-loving teen.
The screening will be followed by a conversation about new perspectives on Iran today through the comics format with two graphic novel publishers: Liz Frances of Street Noise, publisher of I Won’t Pretend These Missiles Are Stars, and Tom Hart of the Sequential Artists Workshop, publisher of Young in Iran.
